No. Aluminium does not rust — it forms a passive oxide layer that protects the underlying metal from further corrosion. Powder-coated aluminium maintains its appearance and structural integrity in Cape Town’s salt air environment without any special maintenance or periodic painting. This is the primary reason we recommend aluminium over painted steel for all coastal carport applications.
DOES A CARPORT REQUIRE COUNCIL APPROVAL IN CAPE TOWN?

How do I clean my canvas awning?
Brush off loose debris regularly. Wash with a mild soapy water solution and a soft brush, then rinse thoroughly. Avoid pressure washing at close range. Allow to dry fully before storing if the awning is retractable. Do not use bleach or solvent-based cleaners on canvas awnings.
Can awnings be fitted to aluminium window frames?
Yes. Our awning brackets are designed to attach to masonry, concrete lintels, timber fascia boards and aluminium window and door frames. We specify the appropriate anchor type for your particular wall construction and window frame material during the site consultation.
