WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN ALUMINIUM CARPORT AND A SHADE NET CARPORT?
WILL AN ALUMINIUM CARPORT RUST NEAR THE COAST?
No. Aluminium does not rust — it forms a passive oxide layer that protects the underlying metal from further corrosion. Powder-coated aluminium maintains its appearance and structural integrity in Cape Town’s salt air environment without any special maintenance or periodic painting. This is the primary reason we recommend aluminium over painted steel for all coastal carport applications.
DOES A CARPORT REQUIRE COUNCIL APPROVAL IN CAPE TOWN?
In most cases yes — fixed carport structures require building plan approval from the City of Cape Town. Requirements vary by zoning and size. Our team can advise on the approval process. Some properties in estates may have additional HOA requirements which we can also assist with.

HOW LONG DOES INSTALLATION TAKE?
Most residential retractable pergola installations are completed within one day. Larger commercial or multi-span systems may require two to three days. We’ll confirm the timeline during your site consultation once we’ve assessed the scope of work.
CAN MY PERGOLA WITHSTAND CAPE TOWN'S SOUTH-EASTER?
Yes — our systems are structurally designed for Cape Town’s wind conditions. We use wind-rated frameworks and specify appropriate fabric weights for exposed locations. For very exposed positions we recommend wind sensors that automatically retract the canopy when wind exceeds a safe threshold.
DO YOU OFFER MOTORISED PERGOLA SYSTEMS?
Absolutely. All our retractable pergola systems can be motorised using Somfy or compatible drives. These can be operated via wall switch, remote control or smartphone app. Wind sensors for automatic retraction are also available.
